Dirty Duo Race and Paul Ridge Ski touring

I ran the Dirty Duo 50K on Saturday, and let me tell you,it was a ride. Things went sideways early, around the 5km mark, when I started having stomach cramps that made running feel like a medieval torture method. I’ve dealt with this kind of discomfort during training before but conveniently chose to ignore it, assuming it would magically go away on race day.

At one point, I was on the verge of pulling the pin, but a kind runner came up beside me, diagnosed me with a side stitch, and gave me a quick tip to manage it (some sort of breathing trick, I was too busy suffering to remember the full details). Miraculously, it helped.

Despite the rocky start, I managed to grind through the rest of the race and finished 9th overall in 4h48m. I’m content with the result, though there’s plenty of room for improvement.

On Sunday, Adrien dragged my sore butt out for some ski touring. I was hesitant, but in hindsight, I’m glad he did. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, one of those crisp bluebird days that makes you forget you spent the previous day voluntarily wrecking your legs for a wooden medal and a banana.

We hit Paul Ridge and managed to squeeze in a few mellow laps. It was great to catch up with Adrien, he’s been on a bit of a hiatus from the backcountry, so it felt like old times again. Legs were grumpy, but spirits were high.
