Squamish Branch 500 - January 04, 2014

If there’s a circle of hell for ski tourers, Branch 500 is definitely it. The road was biblically overgrown, with just enough snow to look promising but not enough to actually carry us anywhere. Zero base, knee-deep powder, and tangled alder turned what should’ve been a logging road skin into a full-body bush-thrash workout.

After 4 hours, we hadn’t even made it to the end of the road. A whopping 600m of elevation gain and most of it earned through hand-to-branch combat.

  1. I had a great day. The tree skiing was a good warm up. I'm thinking there are a lot of great trips possible this winter up the Elaho.
