Sometimes the best trips start with absolutely no plan, and this was one of them.
We rolled out to Duffy Lake Road, staring down a rather bleak weather forecast, classic coastal chaos: heavy morning rain, grey skies, and the kind of damp air that makes your sleeping bag feel wet just by looking at it. So we called an audible: ditch the overnight, go full day-trip mode, and keep it flexible.
We found ourselves on Snowspider FSR by the oh-so-alpine hour of 10 a.m., still no real agenda… until someone uttered the words:
"What about Silent Hub?"
I've been to Hidden Valley a couple of times before, but never stood on Silent Hub’s summit, somehow always missed it, despite the name not-so-silently mocking me on the map. So off we went.
The climb up was straightforward and scenic in its moody, misty kind of way. But the real fun started afterward, when we decided to tag Tandem and Outreach Peaks, because once the skies stopped dumping, we were like kids let loose after recess.
From Outreach Peak, we dropped into the north bowl, a surprisingly aesthetic line, and followed the drainage all the way back to the logging road. There were some soggy socks and mildly regretful bushwacks, but overall, it was a really nice loop and a great use of a mediocre weather day.
