Mount Gillespie and Seed Peak, Pinecone Burke Provincial Park

October 12, 2014

A few years back, Adrien and I made it as far as the Boise Creek pass, and ever since, this rugged little corner of the Pinecone Burke Provincial Park had been quietly calling me back. With a window of “iffy-but-possible” weather, we decided it was time to answer.

We accessed the area via Branch E110 of the Mamquam FSR, a winding maze of logging roads that could easily double as a riddle. Pro tip: bring your GPS and patience, because road junctions come faster than you can say “Wait, was that left or right?”

The Boise Creek Trail doesn’t actually start at the end of the road, but you’ll find it if you poke around the edge of the clearcut. Once on trail, it was well-flagged and led us into pleasant forest, followed by heather meadows and alpine terrain. The trail itself is in decent shape, though we half-expected a Sasquatch given how little traffic this area sees.
