Mount Chief Pascall - March 24, 2014

After a few foiled attempts and years of skiing around it, I finally bagged Mount Chief Pascall. No detours, no excuses, just a clean shot up and down the north face, which offered a surprisingly fun line. The ski down was smooth and fast, and I wrapped it up in 3 hours and 10 minutes, car to car. Felt like closing a chapter, I’ve now skied all the peaks in the Joffre Group. That’s a spicy checkbox ticked.

But was I done? Of course not.

After a quick rest at the cabin. I skied back down to my car and pointed the vehicle north on Duffey. Priorities: ski more, poutine first. I made a pit stop at McDonald's for some greasy, salty reward, which felt both very wrong and very right.

With my body re-fueled and my arteries mildly concerned, I headed back out. The plan was simple: get one more summit in before sunset. Naturally, I messed up the route, blindly following some skin tracks that led me into the north valley of Joffre Peak instead of my intended line. But hey, at least it was scenic... and north-facing.

Somehow, I still made it to the summit an hour before sunset, which meant I had just enough time to snap a few pics, soak in the glow, and mentally rehearse my descent in reverse (since, you know, I’d winged the approach). Not ideal navigation, but style points for commitment.
