So, this trip was supposed to be a quick and easy jaunt from Duffey Road. It took us a full day. But hey, who’s counting? Time is just a social construct anyway.
We started on the first spur, Duffey .01, only to find it’s been re-logged recently because what’s a hike without a little surprise forest demolition? So naturally, we opted for the second spur further down Blowdown FSR. The road climbed high, crossed a creek , and led us through a charred forest that looked like the aftermath of a woodland BBQ gone wrong.
After some gentle contouring, we found ourselves in an open valley on the north side of Eeyore. The mountain sure looked promising.
Then came the direct assault up Eeyore’s North face. Summit was windy enough to make us reconsider all our life choices but hey, we didn’t linger because who wants a hairstyle ruined by nature’s blow-dryer?
On the way down, we faced a short pitch of breakable crust, nature’s way of reminding us who’s boss. After surviving that drama, the turns below 2300m were downright fun before we plunged back into the forest.
We skied straight to a shiny new cut block, which was basically the ski equivalent of taking a shortcut on the highway. Faster, smoother, and with fewer trees yelling at us.
Ten minutes later, we were back at the car, exhausted but victorious.
This area has plenty of ski runs, and honestly, it might just be better than Steep Creek. Who knew?
