Back in the spring of 2012, Alastair and I summited Mount Howard via the Twin One Glacier on the mountain’s north side. Fast forward a few years, and Alastair organized another trip, this time with a new approach up the East Ridge. Naturally, I was keen to join for a different perspective on the peak.
We managed to drive surprisingly high up the Twin One FSR, which made for a short and sweet approach. From there, we followed a ridge that led us directly to the summit. The route was mostly straightforward with only a single, minor creek crossing that didn’t cause much trouble.
The final 150 meters to the summit, however, was a different story, steep and a bit exposed, adding a spicy finish to an otherwise mellow climb. With clear weather and solid footing, we enjoyed stellar views from the summit and appreciated seeing the mountain from a new angle.
A classic Pemberton outing with good company and a satisfying summit.
