I set out on a long run from the Snow Lakes trailhead, located about 6 km outside Leavenworth on Icicle Creek Road (Trail 1553), heading into the legendary Enchantment Lakes basin. This high alpine area is famous for its stunning granite landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, golden larches, and mountain goats ,\a place many consider the best hike in Washington State.
The trail was surprisingly runnable for much of the way, making for a great elevation workout. It’s about 16 km from the trailhead to the base of the Enchantments, with a steady climb totaling roughly 1830 meters of elevation gain before reaching Aasgard Pass.
The terrain is a mix of runnable trail and steep elevation gain as you approach the pass, which offers breathtaking views of the rugged granite peaks and alpine lakes below.
The round trip was 41 km, making for a solid endurance day full of jaw-dropping scenery and a satisfying challenge. A perfect blend of running and mountaineering in one of the most beautiful areas around.
