Day 1: We kicked off with a classy logging road stroll, in shoes, because who needs skis on the road, right? Then came the creek crossing, which was less graceful swimming and more “strategic wet foot placement.” After skinning up to the cabin (and trying not to think about how much energy we’d already burned), we tackled Finch Ridge. The descent to Grizzly Pass was sweet, if by sweet you mean “brace yourself, it’s steep.”
Then it was back up to the North glacier of Goat-Tenquille, where we bagged both peaks like champs (or at least, like people who’d been thrashing around all day). Skiing down the gully back to the cabin had me utterly thrashed, but hey, that’s what day one is for. Evening plans? Absolute relaxation, complete with lots of lying around and maybe some questionable dinner choices.
Day 2: Up at 5am (because apparently, we hate sleep), skinning began at 6am toward Copper Pass to bag Copper Mound. Summit was boot-packed because skis and boots don’t always get along. We then followed the ridge to Mount McCleod and contoured around the south ridge down to the valley north of Mount Barbour. Gaining the ridge north of Barbour was scenic, and slightly terrifying thanks to the bluffy bits. We finally skied down the northern side of Seven O’Clock Mountain, dropped the bluffy section, and hit the logging road just in time to greet our poor, patient car.
Big thanks to Alexis and Andrei for the laughs, the company, and for not leaving me behind somewhere in those bushes!
