I was supposed to work on Friday but I was so disappointed to myself the night before that I needed to clear my mind.
I have been wanting to climb the NE couloir of Brunswick since I saw from Hanover when BCMC climbed it last year.
Off from the trailhead at 10am. The snow was perfect, it was crusty and hard. I did not use snowshoe after Hat-Brunswick col, even crampons were not needed on the Hat traverse .
It had been cloudy in the morning but the sun came out by the time I hit the north side of Brunswick. I crossed several old avalanche debris on the way up to upper bowl. The sun was so intense that I had to watch some snow slabs coming down from different directions of the bowl.
Looking from the base of the gully, it was fairly short . I wasn’t even sure if I was on the right gully. So, I went climbed the east ridge first to check it out, then I traversed back , meeting halfway point of the gully.
After exiting the gully, there was a short arĂȘte and cornice that led to the East summit. I chopped the cornice to get an exit point.
I traversed to South face to bag the real summit, then hiked back down to HSCT trail.
