Ashlu Mountain and Porterhouse Peak- August 10-11, 2012

Driving through the alder tunnel on Ashlu FSR was quite the experience. I parked my car about 100 meters short of the Shortcut Creek bridge. The road was in pretty rough shape,  lots of waterbars and alders taking over, making the drive challenging.

Big thanks to Gerry for filling in and flagging the sinkholes, cutting back the alders, and clearing the culverts. As he wisely pointed out, anyone driving this road should definitely carry a tow strap, pick, saw, and loppers , because getting stuck means a very long walk out!

Once settled, we enjoyed some bevies down in the valley before climbing two mountains nearby. A solid day of adventure, good company, and a reminder that the backcountry always keeps you on your toes.
