Stien Mountain

I found out I didn’t have map of the area in my GPS when I was on the trailhead. I was navigating without contour line

Adrien found an alternative route to cross the Fraser River. This saved us from driving to lilloette.

We parked our  car on hwy 12, hiked down to CN railway bridge that crosses the Fraser River.   Adrien and BT had planned to do Stein Valley, while on the other hand  I planned  to climb Stein Mountain . We parted ways once with hit the main road on west side. Alex and I  headed North of the road, crossing Stein River into a residential.

Every time we passed by a house there  were at least 2-3 dogs following/barking at us.( Alex wasn’t a fan of that).

We  hiked 10km of gravel road to Nekertch Creek where we started to ascend.  We stayed/ followed the north side of the creek.  Heavy bushes and a lot of blowdown. Half way of the ridge we found an old trail with some old flagging tape . At first,I thought it was a horse trail but  I believe there  used to be a trail that goes all the way to the alpine.  Horrible bushwhacking.. At one point I was ready to give up but  I could tell from Alex’s face that he’s keen to go all the way up.  We were lucky to follow a faint trail to the alpine.

We were hiking for about 12 hours and we both agreed to pitch our tent at the ridge. We seeked refuge from the wind on the bush. It was just enough to cover quarter of our tent.

From the bench where we camped, it was 3.5 km to the summit.
